Our History
-
2015 - 2019 The Common Coalition began its journey in 2015 with a mission to eliminate childhood hunger and to improve access to healthy food in underserved communities across Texas and the country. Since then, the coalition has worked alongside local partners, community leaders, and lawmakers to champion legislation that addresses food insecurity at its roots.2015
-
2020 - 2022 Through policy advocacy, education, and grassroots engagement, The Common Coalition expanded its efforts to help communities better understand the importance of making their collective voices heard, and the importance of desperately needed legislation to effect positive change in underserved areas.2020
-
2022 - 2025 Today, The Common Coalition continues its efforts to educate voters on the issues that continue to disenfranchise underserved communities, and why fighting for a future in which legislation is driven by the peoples' voice is the bedrock of democracy.2025
We Hope You Join Us
Dear Friend,
Since the Shelby County decision gutted key protections of the Voting Rights Act, we’ve witnessed a coordinated effort by lawmakers to make it harder for people to vote. In Texas alone, over 700 ballot boxes have been eliminated, disproportionately impacting communities already facing barriers to basic needs like grocery stores, quality education, and accessible healthcare. Meanwhile, billionaires pour dark money into our elections, manipulating outcomes with nefarious technological tactics that drown out the voices of everyday people.
At The Common Coalition, we believe democracy only works when it works for everyone. Elected officials are public servants—not gatekeepers—and they must be held accountable to the people they represent.
We hope you’ll join us in fighting for a more just, equitable, and democratic future—where votes are protected, voices are heard, and communities have what they need to grow strong and healthy.
In solidarity,
The Common Coalition
We'd love to hear from you!
